Precision Farming Bulletin

IMPORTANT Notice for all  Precision Agriculture Customers using Mid-Tech, TeeJet, Raven or Trimble products

Many agricultural GPS systems currently use WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) which is the United States Government free DGPS correction system.  The WAAS signal is currently transmitted by 3 geostationary satellites that broadcast correction signals for North America:  PRN-122, PRN-134 and PRN-135.   A new satellite, PRN-138, became available for use starting July 11, 2007.

PRN-122 and PRN-134 will be decommissioned on July 31, 2007

This means that if your receiver is locked onto either of these 2 satellites, your system will no longer function.   You will need to adjust your receiver to one of the 2 remaining satellites PRN-135 or PRN-138.   Customers using a subscription service for GPS satellite will not be affected.

The action required varies by manufacturer.   Links are provided so that you may take corrective action.

Newton Crouch Inc. strongly advises all customers with WAAS GPS to be proactive in their response to this situation.  There will be a rush to correct problems and these tech support areas will be crowded.  It is in your best interest to immediately verify settings and test equipment prior to field use.
